Has one of your car tires ever gotten stuck in mud, and the whole car refuses to move an inch and no matter how hard you press on that damn accelerator, all effort is in vain? Well, let me acquaint you, a bit, with the science behind this episode. This event is called a slip, when your car’s differential supplies the total torque generated, to the tire spinning freely, as in mud or over ice. Believe me, pushing that that hunk of metal is last thing you’ll want, and will probably need a way to circumvent this situation.

This Lego limited slip differential video will show you how to over come the slip problem. To the existing differential, add a pair semi-axles with a couple of free cams between them. This modification is supposedly enough to solve your problem, because until the wheels are at same speed, the cams remain separated. But as soon as there’s a speed difference between them, the cams lock themselves, rendering the differential disabled. Thus both tires are supplied with equal torque thereby avoiding the slip. Well, how efficient this system is, you will have to check that out for yourself. But do take a look at the video after the break.
