Who'd have guessed that a game promoting fitness would do so well? And yet from the land that likes to have its rikishis nice and fat comes the news that Nintendo's Wii Fit is a major hit. Ever since the package released in December last year, Wii Fit and Wii Balance Boards have flown off from the shelves. After a month of whopping sales, the package has already hit one million mark.

And if rumors are to be believed, the mac-loving populace of North America will soon enough get its taste of exercise Nintendo-style. May 20 is being floated in the world of web as the tentative date that the users on the other side of the world might get their hands on Wii Fit. The game was scheduled to hit shelves in North America in 1st quarter this year itself but the surging demand in Japan has meant that Nintendo must reschedule its calendar a bit.

The game is targeted at a different lot than the normal gamers. It allows users to do different activities ranging from yoga, simple pilates and push ups, right in their living rooms. The game has already been a major hit and a release in North America would only mean more fat profits for the gaming giant.

We might argue that Nintendo has lost an opportunity in not releasing the game for New Year, when everyone is busy making resolutions for getting fit. And yet the surging sales and consequent expectations elsewhere tell a different story. As a matter of fact, the delay only gives the North American audiences time to gear themselves up. Get fit regime begins in earnest this May.
