If you’ve been admiring the touchscreen capabilities of the iPhone 3G and the Microsoft Surface platform, which has slowly been developing as a commercial product, you would be pleased to know that touchscreens are finally going mainstream and won’t be limited to big corporations such as Microsoft and Apple anymore. R&D studio NOR_/D (NORTD) has developed a hardware/software package that allows open source developers to design multi-touch applications. The Touchkit Run comes with a fully assembled and frameless 70cm x 50cm multi-touch screen, a necessary calibrated IR camera, and a fully functional software package. All you need is the Windows/Linux/OSX OSs and the knowledge of mounting the entire setup. People who are C++ aware can use the package to develop their own products, which would be home delivered, and the entire package costs $1580. Now it all depends on the open source guys as to what comes out of this amazing package and how it is utilized.
