We’ve become so dependent on computers that we just can’t get enough of them. Some of my friends never seem to switch them off. This addiction means the technology driving these machines should be more rugged than ever before. While some companies like Western Digital want HDDs to go eco-friendly, some like Fujitsu believe that HDDs should be developed with the time of operation in mind.
The company has announced a range of HDDs that can be used continuously for long durations without the fear of them getting too hot to handle. These drives will be used in ATMs, POS systems, medical equipment. The range called the MHY2 BS is a 2.5-inch HDD with a SATA interface with capacities up to 200GB, along with a 5,400 rpm disk speed. These drives will reach shelves by the end of August. For now the company is offering two other non-stop drive series including the 7,200 rpm MHW2 BK and the MHW2 AC Series. Both these drives are rugged enough to withstand even the most drastic changes in temperature.
No news on how much these drives might cost, stay tuned for more info.
