Research in Motion (RIM) plans to launch a new software that would enable non-BlackBerry phones, running on Windows software, to access BlackBerry functions.

BlackBerry phones are widely used for the unique BlackBerry service that gives access to functions like wireless emails etc.

With the new software, RIM plans to attract more customers by giving them the liberty to access the BlackBerry service without changing to a BlackBerry handset. Once the software is installed in any phone running on Windows platform, the Windows layout and icons are replaced with the BlackBerry interface. The user will be able to to use either of the two platforms on his phone.

RIM is in the process of co-ordinating on this issue with a number of cellphone operators and the software is expected to be available by September.

At the moment, RIM is not sure whether the software will incur any additional download charges, or if it would be included with subscription to the BlackBerry service.
