As 3D technology takes center stage, everyone seems to catch up and capitalize on this. Nokia once known for its handsets eventually lost the market share to fierce and advanced competition. And now, while they try to reinvent themselves by coming up with innovative solutions, they seem to have stuck a gold mine with their new Nokia 3D Communicator.

They have already submitted patent applications for this new device called “Autostereoscopic rendering and display apparatus”. The device will be able to offer full 3D and 2D display.
When it comes to 3D, we already have the much known LG Optimus and HTC Evo. But Nokia is all set to leave them behind. The device looks similar to the older version of communicator and is equipped with front facing cameras that will be able to capture your eye movement to display better 3D images according to the users viewing angle.

If you read the previous paragraph, I did mention about cameras. Nokia has embedded several cameras to overcome the limited field of view problem that most 3D interfaces face. The cameras are calibrated to determine the user’s finger movement in relation to displayed 3D object, which is a shadow of the object on the 2D display.

Nokia has been the forerunner, when it comes to concept phone with advanced technology. However, there are many occasions when the prototypes had failed to transform into a functional end product. Could this be any different?
