The war between Blu-ray/HD-DVD is still on and is being fought in earnest but a third player in this next generation DVD player market has emerged with an alternative to both the above formats.
NME or New Medium Enterprise has launched its HD-VMD (versatile multilayer disc) player, which can support high-definition videos.
The player will be shown off at the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas in January.
Interestingly, the company is targeting the emerging economies. The HD-VMD will be available with all the popular video formats including MPEG1, MPEG2, XviD (MPEG4), DivX (MPEG4), H.264 (MPEG4), VC-1 (Windows), MP3, WMA, and DviD.
The player is slated to be priced at $175 and the company will start shipping it from November.
