Wii became quite a sensation amongst people of all ages when it was launched. Every one was fascinated at how it works and for some it seemed like a good exercise routine. But how about welcoming something more detailed and powerful? Yes, Nintendo is now coming out with its successor, Wii 2, codenamed "Project Cafe"!

It's expected to launch in 2012, but we can get the first preview of the new hardware at E3 early this June. There is a lot of anticipation for this new baby as its strong competitors, the Xbox 360 and Play Station 3 are going to take a backseat. It is said that the new Wii 2 has more horsepower as compared to the older Wii, which in itself was weaker than the leading gaming devices. Since Nintendo is raising the bar, we shall take you through some of our predictions in terms of expectations.
HD capable touchscreen

What better feature than having a HD capable touchscreen? We expect it to be at least 6-inches in size, also keeping in mind the good resolution delivering the much anticipated real life thrill to the player. The controller is expected to integrate “Screen Stream” technology, which will stream games directly to the color touchscreen. This technology will take the display resolution to 1080p, and will be able to split four individual views of multiplayer games, squirting one for each player’s controller. Now, whether this can be applicable to full games, mini games or applications, is something that is not known yet.
IBM power PC with three cores

If rumors are to go by, the new Wii 2 will not be built as it was previously. It is going to support GameCube and Wii games but it will be built with a custom IBM Power PC with 3 cores, an ATI built GPU as well. So instead of the usual one core, this is going to have three cores.
Motion controller with built-in display

With the six-inch HD touchscreen display on the joy pad, we can expect extra game content, besides it's multitouch capabilities providing custom controls on a few titles. Other than this there are speculations that the controller will be able to act as an independent games player irrespective of the console, but other capabilities of the controller are still under the cover.
Dual analog sticks
If sources are to be believed, the new Nintendo has made provision for dual analog sticks, in addition to the usual d-pad and trigger buttons. It is said that the GameCube controller has these facilities that Nintendo is now introducing.
Powerful hardware

The Wii has been Nintendo's smallest home console to date that weighs just about 1.2 kgs. However, the new Wii 2 seems to be even more powerful in this case. The controller will be all-new and it will have a HD screen on it.
Increased memory
The Wii 2 will comprise of 512 megabytes of internal flash memory and an SD card slot is provided for external storage. The SD card is so handy that it can not only be used for uploading pictures and backing up all the data, but it can also be used for downloading Virtual console and Wii games. However, what we are anticipating is that the memory be increased to more than the 512 MB provided.
Backwards compatibility

If Nintendo wants to cater to its long time users then it has to have the new Wii console compatible with the older titles, this seems to be an option open with the makers, which the rumors are suggestive of. There are claims that the Wii 2 will operate on other older titles. The backwards compatibility will allow users to play old-generation games with the pleasure of the new ones.
