Nine new multi-colored Inspiron PC's by Dell
Dell Inc. is proud to announce the launch of its nine new Inspiron desktops and notebooks. Also announced is XPS M1330 notebook that will hit the market with eight different shell-colors to choose from.

To improve its falling sales-graph in the market and to improve quarterly profits, Dell has also started to sell some firm PC models at Wal-Mart retail stores June 10 onwards. This represents a drastic departure from Dell's existing direct-sales model. For years Dell has aimed at cutting intermediary costs by selling its PC's via its site, phone lines and catalogs.
Alex Gruzen, senior vice president of Dell's consumer product group, confirmed this shift in marketing strategy:
We have a broader retail strategy and over the coming months we will announce more partnerships, both with Wal-Mart and with other retailers.
Also, Dell is differentiating its products by offering consumers more color choice. Inspiron notebooks tout a colorful lineup. You name it you've got it. From your commonplace Black and White to the bold Sunshine Yellow and Ruby Red, eight different shades are provided for.
Monkey see monkey do
Already it looks like other computer manufacturers are going to follow Dell's suit. A report released by Forrester Research Inc. reveals that to combat Dell's colorful lineup, other PC traders will also track the same blueprint by making their products unique with flashy lights. Any chance of even minor modifications on technical front thus, goes out of the window.
Forrester analyst J.P. Gownder asserted:
The consumer PC industry is entering the Age of Style, a time in which radical form factor innovations, increased aesthetic diversity, and consumer choice and personalization will determine which models, and which PC vendors, win or lose
In effect, he is saying that increasingly customers are choosing a particular model not because of its features but how it looks. (Get real people, that won't get you very far...Talk about vanity!)
Now, returning to the issue at hand. Inspiron notebooks will hit the shelves with a choice of two processors: either from Intel Corp. or from Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD). Consumers have to shell out $749 for model 1521 and $999 for 1720 model. Inspiron 1420 priced at $799, will offer additional choice on OS front. Customers can choose amongst Microsoft Corp.'s Windows Vista or the Ubuntu Linux operating system.
