Nikon debuts pro-worthy point-and-shoot cameras in Coolpix P7000 and Coolpix S8100

Who’s going to benefit from this healthy rivalry amid Canon and Nikon in point-and-shoot cameras? Well, it comes without telling, the consumers who else. Latest entrants to impress the photographer in us consumers come from Nikon, who has introduced two high-end, feature-packed cameras in the Nikon Coolpix P7000 and the Nikon Coolpix S8100.

Nikon Coolpix P7000

It is a 10.1MP targeted to compete with Canon’s PowerShot G11. The Coolpix P7000 features 1/1.7-inch CCD sensor which enables the camera hit ISO 6400 sensitivity natively, and an impressive 12,800 when it is boosted with a VR zoom lens. The camera wears a 3-inch LCD viewfinder, and has manual control for almost all settings. The Coolpix P7000 offers RAW support and has three mode dials on top for changing shooting mode, light sensitivity and for on screen adjustments. Priced at $500, the camera shoots 720p videos at 24fps has a HDMI out and makes provision for eye-level optical viewfinder and hot shoe.

Nikon Coolpix S8100

It is an upgrade to the Coolpix S8000, which features a backside-illuminated 12.1-MP CMOS sensor for enhanced low-light performance. The camera has a very fast burst mode which lets the camera capture 10fps at full-HD 1080p. The Coolpix S8100 provides 10X optical zoom and also features optical/digital image stabilization. Priced at $300, the camera wears a 3-inch LCD screen, has a dedicated record button for video shooting and has a very exciting Sports Continuous scene mode which lets you click images at up to 120 fps though at a reduced resolution.
