Having grown up in a tech-savvy household full of PDAs, I never really experienced the kind of dependence people have on the cult-favorite post-it notes. But since my granny is a huge fan of these (her kitchen seems to be almost decorated with these colorful little sticky notes) I thought I’d investigate what those clever designers over at MIT are doing to improve upon the 'technology'. Apparently, the new MIT innovation is not really an innovation at all since it still uses the old pen-and-Post-it note method. But the difference between the Post-it notes of yore and the new age 'Quickies' as they call it, is it is based around a digital pen and special pad, which saves your notes as you pen them down on RFID-embedded Post-Its. It then 'uses its understanding of the user’s intentions, content, and the context of the note to provide the user with reminders, alerts, messages, and just-in-time information' via software loaded on your PC.

The intelligent electric note system can also store location information and helps you locate the object the note is stuck on via the RFID tag, so you can also use it to organize your storage room. What’s even better is that it can also SMS you the note at the specified time. Which of course only makes me wonder why someone would go through all the trouble of writing down a note and wait for it to SMS you the reminder when they can simply jot in down as a calendar note on their cellphones and PDAs. But I suppose for the old-fashioned people, it might still be a reminder of the good ol’ days. Watch the vid below for a quick demo of the new technology.
