New superhero on the block - Axon

The latest invention of the team from Simon Fraser University is surely going to give the superheroes of yesteryears a run for their money. A modern depiction of superheroes, Mr Chronomek, is coming to give the crooks a taste of their own medicine. Hailing from a number of Universities, a number of teams participated in the fifth international conference on tangible embedded and embodied interactions for superhero collections.

Being the best inventor team, the team from Simon Fraser University won for Mr Chronomek. The team from Technical University bagged the prize for best quality and execution with their superhero suit Axon. Last but not the least; the presentation award went to the team from Bauhaus University Weimar with their superhero Godmode. However, our hero for the day is Axon.

This idea is the result of brainstorming by Industrial Design students from The Technical University Eindhoven. Marianne van den Akker, Joost Aanen, Koen Beljaars and Jacquelyn van Kampen together made use of hard and soft materials with an effort to turn into a wearable superhero suit. The main motive kept in mind while preparing the costume was to have an aesthetically prepared suit which would serve as an eye candy and should be comfortable to wear at the same time.

Material used:

The Fantastic Four (Marianne van den Akker, Joost Aanen, Koen Beljaars and Jacquelyn van Kampen) made use of only one LilyPad Arduino to run the 260 LEDs and 52 reed switches which consequentially required them to include 7 input and 7 output shift registers. Being a combination of the complexity between the wiring and the position of the human spine, the magnificence of the suit knows no bounds. The Arduino becomes the heart, the electronic components become the spine and the light becomes the energy. Ingenuity and brains made a deadly combination in the compilation of this superhero attire.

How does the Superhero Function?

By swiping all the energy from any of his body part into a ball of energy, the transfer of energy is superhuman. So beware the wrath of the new superhero on the block, for he will simply sweep you off your feet with his swooning charm and endless supply of energy.
