Like parasites, the way we are sucking the blood of this enigmatic ball revolving in the universe, apparently, these types of machines are what we desperately need in the near future. An ultimate amalgam of a gas turbine power plant and a heat-operated refrigeration system, the machine can prove a real panacea providing water, electricity and refrigeration at the same time, especially in war or disaster torn zones.
The brainchild of two engineers from University of Florida, the machine, though big, runs on conventional fossil fuels, biomass-produced fuels or hydrogen and successfully churns out potable water and electricity. If this were not enough for you, you would be thrilled to know that the machine is 5 per cent to 8 per cent more efficient than earlier turbines.
To make the portable plant more practical, researchers have to make it more compact, keeping it efficient at the same time, and that would be a real challenge, but if they succeed, the machine can open up the flood gates for more of these kinds and save the planet.
