New exoskeleton lets you carry a 200 pound load with ease

I love it when life imitates fiction. And the latest fiction-inspired gizmo to make it into the real life is the all new HULC (Human Universal Load Carrier) exoskeleton that allows users to carry a load of upto 200 pounds while walking normally just like a superhero. Developed by Berkeley Bionics, the exoskeleton is made up of two powered anthropomorphic legs, a power unit, a small on-bead micro-computer and a back-pack like frame for mounting loads. The company claims that when in use, the HULC can reduce the oxygen consumption of the wearer by 5-10% in comparison to situations when walking without the aid. The effect is even more dramatic when the wearer is carrying a heavy load which is something that certainly will make it a lot easier for soldiers and hikers to carry all of their stuff without risking burnout. I guess the future really is here!
