Neuf Cegetel plans to develop a low-cost computer to target French market
This is a real good new for the people who cannot afford to buy a computer as French Internet service provider Neuf Cegetel is planning to develop a computer based on low cost model, aimed at people who are unable or unwilling to buy a computer.

This computer will be based on an open-source software. For the operating system, the computer uses a version of Linux with a graphic overlay designed by Neuf. The entry cost is ridiculously cheap, retailing for a mere €39.90, while a one-time payment of €29 nets you a keyboard, mouse, and camera, and an additional €99 brings home a 14" color monitor. The built-in memory is a fairly limited 512-kilobyte flash disk, but the device is compatible with external hard drives and a range of peripherals like printers, Internet phone headsets and digital cameras. As new peripherals become popular, the necessary software will be available for download onto the Neuf computers via regular software updates.
The choice of open source software has been made to reduce the cost as no license fees is required to pay for it and motivate engineers to work freely. Introduction of this scheme will surely benefit the people of France and also be a boom for the French internet service providers.
