In the midst of uproar of Mac World, we shouldn’t ignore the EVA8000 Digital Entertainer HD set-top box from the house of Netgear displayed at CES that is the only device other than the Apple TV (formerly iTV) that support streaming via iTunes FairPlay.

The Netgear EVA8000 Digital Entertainer HD set-top box will allow Windows iTunes users to stream protected AACs brought from the iTunes store to their homes, as well as HD video streaming up to 1080p over the 802.11g connection. Anyway, the Mac users will only be able to stream unprotected files.

Though the concept of streaming movies, videos, music and the like from home PCs and storage devices isn’t a breakthrough thing but linking up to third-party-controlled systems like FairPlay is indeed appreciable. It also has superior YouTube sport to play YouTube videos on TV, apparently due to some deal that enables the device to access their servers.

Well, I am atleast thrilled to find someone in the competition to Apple. The Digital Entertainer HD set-top box is slated to be available soon.
