Netbook-brained robots from RoBe can be fun

The Coppa and Silvio robots from RoBe may not be sci-fi powerful robots, but having netbook-brained robots isn’t bad, for now at least. The bots get juice from a 12V rechargeable battery, and can use an autofocus webcam, a sonar system, heat and humidity sensors and servo-driven grabbing actuators to good effect. A single USB port on the netbook connects to all these gadgets, and helps the netbook perform processing functions for the bots.

Using the netbook as the controlling mechanism also allows for easy hookup to the web that allows you to command your bot via the tubes. The Silvio robot is priced at $1449, while the Coppa is more expensive, costing $1649.
