Posted By: Manish Kanaujia | Apr 19 2007

Our future cellphones or other electronics devices will use the latest unveiled plastic developed from corn. Yes, this is not a prank or any kind of science fiction because now, NEC has developed a new type of plastic made from plant material that results in better heat conduction as compared to other metals.

This new plastic is produced by adding 10-30% of carbon fiber to polylactic acid resin made from corn. As compared to stainless steel the heat diffusion of this strong plastic is doubled and its weight is reduced till upto1/5.

The material used in this prototype plastic created by plant-based resin has three merits that outshine petroleum resin:

The weight can be reduced to approximately 1/2

It is suited to a low-cost production process such as injection molding because of its high formability

It is environmentally friendly

This new advancement will surely boost phones, media players and other portable devices and its mass production will begin sometime at the end of next year.
