What can NASA and MIT do if they want to have radio telescopes that are far away from the radio interference of the Earth? Simple! Just go to the Moon. With the sole objective of getting good quality observations, NASA has approved MIT’s proposal to plan an array of radio telescopes on the Far side of the Moon as a part of the project known as the Lunar Array for Radio Cosmology (LARC). Engineers have purposely chosen this side of the moon for its observations because this side would shield the telescopes from light and radio interference from the Earth. The array which would be completely built by robots would cover some two square kilometers of the surface of our nearest celestial neighbor.
