Mouseless: The mouse slayer could be on the leash in near future

Pranav Mistry with his colleagues Patti Maes and Liyan Chang have revolutionized the way we interact with our computers. Creating ‘Mouseless’ interface prototype for only $20, these people have created an affordable technology, which if put into application will make computing a fun and less taxing activity. With Mouseless, a substitute for mouse or should I say an invisible mouse, the wiry mouse could be slayed forever and for good.

It uses an IR laser, an IR camera and specialized software, interpreting hand and finger movements. The parts of the hand that touch the table are illuminated by the laser and these illuminated parts are tracked by the camera. Then the software that is used sorts out the commands for the computer. For example, moving of hand in a cupped position operates the computer. So, may be with the way you fold your hand or the wave of your hand you can do other things with your computer. With the costs and feasibility, if this technology is ever put into application, it could be like revolutionizing the way we have looked at computers.
