If you remember, the University of Pittsburgh had successfully created a robot arm and hand that can be controlled by a monkey’s thought alone. That was a good news for those suffering with paralysis. However, now the robotic leg technology can work anywhere in the world. The researchers at Duke University wired electrodes to a monkey’s brain in North Carolina to map the signals to specific leg movements and then transmitted it on Internet to control a pair of robot legs at the Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International in Kyoto, Japan. Now, this makes the Internet a real boon for human kind.
The work was presented at Neuroscience 2007 in San Diego, California with hopes to benefit paralyzed people by offering control over prosthetic legs via brain implants. So, at last, our ancestors are on Internet to get their share of bananas for their incredible contribution.
