Vin Ferrera, a former Harvard signal caller noticed the ribbed plastic bottle used to squirt saline into sinuses. He then further discovered that when squeezing followed by pounding - the plastic cushioned soft and hard blows with equal assuredness. Gotcha! This is what Ferrera was looking for. Three years following this event, Ferrera made a new trend to protect the footballer’s head and face from severe accidental injuries.
Ere, footballer used to wear helmets that protected the face and head by a mask, but majorly in high schools students and footballers still used to receive blows which sometimes led to persistent memory problems and also to coma and death.
Surveyors and researchers say that Ferrera’s creation is something very innovative and extremely beneficial as he well knows suffer behind the blows being a quarterback himself. He included the thermoplastic shock absorbent materials filled with air that can take on a hundreds of forces and still chasten the sudden colliding of the head that causes concussion.
Ferrera’s company Xenith ltd says that the price for the futuristic helmet will be $350 which is three times of the normal helmet that is available now. Price will be less for schools where students are just learning to play football.
Three high schools, some athletic directors and others will be field testing the helmets so that it is all ready to be used in the 2008 football season. Ferrera’s helmet scored 200 in many important locations and also had an average score of 340, which is normally lower than today’s helmet designs.
In context to the results, Xenith said that the scores might be low but the practical benefits of the helmet will be much more than expected. Ferrera also added that the tests and examinations done on the helmet have survived hundreds of blows which promise that it will long survive against the concussions. Lets hope this design falls true to for the footballers or others who use it for that matter.
