Mobile World Congress 2008 saw electronics bigwig LG displaying their latest Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology on a handset platform with Nortel and Alcatel-Lucent providing base station technology at its booth. The new and improved version is believed to be over eight times faster than HSDPA and twice as faster than the wired technology it featured at the event last year. Boasting of downloads at 60Mbps and uploads at up to 40Mbps, which is six times the speed of HSUPA, this new technology will enable LTE networks to download a 3MB music file in around 0.4 seconds and a 700MB movie in less than 90 seconds! With the new LTE, wireless high-def video streaming, video conferencing, uploading user generated content to the net and streaming security camera video is expected to be bettered manifold. LG is confident that LTE is truly the next level for high speed wireless networking and can be added to existing WCDMA and HSDPA networks already in use.
