MIT's 'Seeing Machine' promises a new ray of hope to the Blind

It's great to see that LEDs can execute bigger tasks too, apart from churning out their usual glow. Scientists at MIT have utilized light-emitting diodes instead of lasers to create its new 'seeing machine' that promises a brighter future to the blind.

Elizabeth Goldring, a senior fellow at MIT's Center for Advanced Visual Studies and the brain behind the whole concept has created this $4,000 machine out of her 10 years of research. Goldring has simply refurbished the traditional 'scanning laser opthalmoscope', or SLO to create the seeing machine.
