MIT's new technology to make computers see as we do
Researchers at MIT are apparently looking beyond search engines and want future machines to see as we do. The latest technology will eliminate human attendance at surveillance cameras, promises enhanced video editing of movies and quick image search from a large database or a video clip.

Teaching computers to recognize objects to that effect no doubt a daunting task, but scientists are trying to decipher the way human eye catches color schemes and object depth to incorporate it into future computers. They note how each pixel in an image stimulates a photoreceptor in the eye, for instance, based on the pixel's color value and brightness: each stimulus leads neurons to fire in a particular pattern. The idea is to mimic the brain.
