Microsoft Windows 8 and its ultra cool new features

Finally, the wait to see the Microsoft's Windows 8 is over. On comparing the features of this latest operating system with the previous versions, you will notice certain dramatic changes. Wednesday’s D9 conference saw Steven Sinofsky, president of Windows Live and Windows, and Walt Mossberg from All Things D, coming together to preview the imminent OS that will soon power various desktops, laptops, tablets and even more. Windows 8 will come with a touch interface and the new home screen will be similar to the home screen of Windows Phone 7. It will feature sliding tiles, which will have room for finger gestures instead of cursor clicks. The user will simply have to slide through these tiles for navigating through the programs. Creating something, which works equally good on an 8-inch tablet as well as on a desktop, is the primary objective of introducing this new operating system.

The main feature of the interface is the latest start screen, which looks very similar to the tile-based Windows Phone 7 interface. One can view all the programs as tiles, and the users can open the programs with just the touch of their finger. The standard Windows desktop has also been manipulated for making it touch friendly. It uses a new sort of ‘Fuzzy hit targeting’, for adjusting the fact that touching with fingers

is not as precise as clicking with a mouse.

There are two types of applications that Windows 8 supports. One of them is the typical Windows application and the other is the application that has to be written in JavaScript and HTML5 and gives the impression of a mobile application. Windows 8 will come with a configured Internet Explorer 10 and numerous other widget-like applications, with which you can check the weather and stock prices as well. Even though any details are yet not out, but it is likely that the start screen will include a link to a a store. This supposedly confirms the plans of Microsoft to distribute Windows programs directly like Apple.

This will completely transform the way we use and interact with the next generation operating system. The latest applications will be similar to the web applications because of the JavaScript or HTML5 coding. Such applications will look similar to those that you find on iPhone, Windows 7, and Android devices, and will work in full-screen mode even within IE (Internet Explorer) 10.

Windows 8 OS has been under works from the time when Windows 7 was shipped in July 2009, but few questions still remain answered - like when the OS will be ready, and who'll be the main gainers? This is why we look forward for the conference scheduled in mid-September in Anaheim, Calif.
