Microsoft plans subscription-based TV service using Xbox 360

Subscription-based TV service is the new form of home entertainment, after the likes of Google and Apple venturing in the direction, Microsoft is the new name that wants to make the difference felt as well. Reason, the software giant is creating a new subscription-based TV service on the Xbox 360. This could either mean a full-fledged virtual cable operator charging monthly fee with Xbox 360 used as extension for existing networks such as ABC, NBC, Fox, CBS, ESPN or CNN or allow cable subscribers to use Xbox to watch shows and interact with friends using the game console.

Furthermore there are chances of channel packages for customers but we learn that the plan may take about a year to develop. Microsoft has always been ambitious about being a major player in the TV business and its investments in Web TV and MSN TV set-top box software are reminiscent of it, though this new step seems unique and lucrative, but Google and Apple are almost there to recreate the market with their TVs.
