Microsoft kills Intel Mac owners by culling EFI booting for Vista

Microsoft killed Intel Mac owners' hopes by announcing that Windows Vista will be released sans EFI, Extensible Firmware Interface, booting support. Now Intel Macs owners will not be able to dual-boot between Windows Vista and OS X as Intel Macs only support booting via EFI.

Even computers with 32-bit processors will not supported for booting Windows. Mac owners were desperately waiting for the release of Vista as Microsoft previously announced that EFI booting would be supported by Vista, but now it'll not be available until the release of Longhorn Server.

Microsoft development manager, Andrew Ritz said:

A combination of factors changed our plans. The big one, in my opinion was platform availability. With this huge move to 64-bit based platforms and for us to support it, we needed to see a large heterogeneous sample of 64 bit implementations out there for us to feel comfortable in supporting it.
