Microscopic test to compare iPhone 4 and iPhone 3G screens

Since the very launch of the iPhone 4 till today when it is ready to sell out to the inquisitive Apple fanatics, the phone’s Retina Display has received divide opinions. While some have billed it as ‘the best mobile display yet’ the likes of Raymond Soneira, President DisplayMate Technologies, think the displays resolution doesn’t really exceed the human retina. Having heard various versions on the display, two PhD candidates Ryan White and Bryan Gauntt of Penn State University, thought of finding the truth for themselves in the closest possible way. In their quest for truth the pair put the iPhone 4 screen under a microscope and found that in contrast to iPhone 3G's 13 x 40 microns pixel measure the iPhone 4's pixels measure 6.5 x 20 microns, which total up to exactly four times as many pixels.
