Meet the five newly inducted members of the Robot Hall of Fame that have been honored for their roles not only as machines by also the part they played for fun and purpose. Robots both from fiction and the real world were chosen believing the fact that fictional robots inspire the making of a real one.
The honorees picked from fiction include one of the earliest movie androids (the metallic Maria from Fritz Lang’s 1927 classic, “Metropolis”) as well as Steven Spielberg’s creation David from the 2001 film “A.I.”, performed by Haley Joel Osment) and the Gort from “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, a 1951 Cold War parable.
And not to mention, Sony’s AIBO robot dog and the Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm, picked from the real world.
