George Devol, the creator of the first industrial robot, once quipped, ‘if people are stupid enough to let robots eventually dominate mankind, maybe they deserve it.’ Well, the recent advancements in robotics prove that our stupidity march is going just one way – forward. And, not many in the industry are complaining. We are looking at an age where robots would make the humans redundant. Putting it more euphemistically, we would eventually have machines automating every single activity of our live. The Murata Boy, a robot developed in Japan, is a fine example to justify this conviction. Artificial Intelligence is no longer a subject of complexity, with scientists effortlessly creating robots like the Murata Boy, which can ride a bicycle like you and me. Incorporated with Gyro Sensors, the robot can detect position and balance itself.
Murata Boy can identify if a surface is uneven, laden with obstacles or is as smooth as a highway. In every case, it transmits images back to a computer for future reference and analysis. Apparently, this creation is a product of Murata Corporation’s attempts to develop a robot that can lift heavy loads and assist in perilous sites. For all you know, this might just be the beginning of a future we have always envisioned and fantasized, thanks to movies.
