The needle and syringe combo has gone unchanged for decades with almost nothing being done to make it look a little less frightening to patients. Sensing the huge opportunity for innovation in this area, Christopher Holden, a design student at the Northumbria University has come out with a radical looking drug injector called the MediDome. This drug injector is primarily designed to eliminate needle injuries and to alleviate the patient’s fear of needles. In order to do all this and a little more, Christopher has smartly packaged the needle into a bubble-like package that needs to be pressed to inject medicine into a patient’s bloodstream. This design will ensure that the medicine is not injected into a vein as a tiny bubble will fill up with blood if the injection is placed improperly. The design also makes sure that the MediDome can be used only once. This is one very critical part of the design as many diseases like AIDS, Hepatitis, etc can be transmitted through reuse of syringes.
The MediDome is tamper proof as it changes colour if ruptured or tampered with. All these factors come together to make the MediDome a drug injector which combines functionality with pleasing aesthetics. Watch out for the MediDome Drug Injector, simply because this is one medical product that could revolutionize drug injectors.
