Matrox flaunts Optical Fiber based RGU

Matrox has introduced a new device for extending the distance between your CPU and the display units.

The device is named Matrox F1220 RGU. RGU means remote graphics unit and it has the following connectors:

- Two Display Connectors

- Audio Connector

- Two FireWire Connectors

- Six USB Ports

The device can be used to increase the distance from a couple of feet to over 820-feet. The base of the technology is the use of standard multi-mode fiber optics cable with Dual-LC connectors.

The device also supports high end resolutions of the order of 1,920 x 1,200 and 128MB of graphics memory.

The company has claimed that the device will be available in the second quarter of 2007. There is no news on the availability of the product.
