Marimba, the percussion instrument from Latin America, has a genre of music developed and based on it. Particularly popular in Costa Rica, Guatemala and Nicaragua, they are found all over the Central and Latin American nations. The marimba looks like a piano and a player strikes it with mallets to produce tunes. Traditionally, a marimba is manufactured using high quality rosewood from Honduras. Marimba One, based in Arcata, California has begun to manufacture marimbas with aluminum and rosewood combined. Marimba One has teamed up with Hydro, which provides the aluminum resonators responsible for that special sound. The resonators must adhere to specified tolerances. The instrument’s frames are made from drawn tubing made of aluminum as well, which provides torsional strength and is lightweight. For more information on marimbas, you could visit Marimba One’s website.
