Don’t you think it’s obvious to face some raised eyebrows for Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull, especially when he has allotted $10m to a project which claims - contrary to cloud seeding previously demonstrated - rain drops even when there are no clouds.
Further, this research into a mysterious ionization technology is promoted by the Australian Rain Corporation. It leaves experts like Emeritus Professor Neville Fletcher of the Australian National University and Rainmaker Ian Searle, the father of cloud seeding in Australia, in doubts about the practicality of this Russian invention. Here are few comments, pregnant with doubts, from the mouth of these world renowned experts in this field:
Professor Rosenfeld:
There is no single scientific paper, only the patent, and one can patent anything claiming it’s to do anything that he likes, as long as no one else has made the same claims before.
Ian Searle:
If he claims that the conventional method is unproven technology, so much more so he should be very careful with the really baseless technology. Frankly, I was astonished to go for something that is quite unproven, quite untried, and you could do wonderful things with that money.
Whatever be the result of this huge investment, which faces unacceptability on scientific grounds, but Malcolm Turnbull has atleast shown that how much he considers the environmental activists, especially when the election for Sydney seat of Wentworth are ahead.
