Mac hack in a retro disk drive

Posted By: Gagandeep Sharma | Feb 20 2009

Flash back to 1978, when the world was dominated by the clunky and monotonous 5¼ floppies and their disk II drives. Flash-forward and we have modders trying to bring these back into fashion. Charles Mangin on the RetroMacCast forum has put up a Mac Mini hack in which he has crammed it up in an Apple disk II drive. Sacrificing looks for a bit of nostalgia, he has managed to create a body that just, well, fits. The synthesis of the two means that the drive door actually functions as an insertion point for DVDs and the front light of the drive flashes when the Mac is at work. The power switch is moved to the back: just like the good old times. Check out his flickr set for more details. And don’t you curse the talented chap for screwing a perfectly good (looking) device. Instead admire his ingenuity with a Mac Mini that had some “hardware issues.”
