Some of you may remember those old Looms that they used to use to make clothes in textile factories decades ago. Possibly some of you don’t, but that is besides the point. These machines aren’t going to be making clothes anymore, they are going to be making airplanes. These machines will weave carbon fibres, which are stronger and lighter than aluminum. With the recent move towards composite materials, airplanes are becoming much more lightweight by the day and that could mean an increase in profit for flying companies. These composites make the plane much lighter which in turn allows the plane more passengers and allows it to carry less fuel to get to their destination. Also for all you environmentalists, it would also decrease carbon emissions by a lot which would help the environment in turn as well.
I believe this is a turn for the good which could only mean good things for fliers. If they make more money from the same ticket, then we could possibly see a decrease in flying costs and more advances towards safer aircrafts. This is definitely something the flying companies cannot afford to pass up. I honestly believe this is a step in the right direction, but we need to make sure it is safe because the airlines don’t need anymore bad publicity.
