Speed nuts who don’t want to damage the environment in their quest for going faster can opt for this eco-friendly means of transport. Enter the Lightning F40 bicycle which has a top speed of an amazing 35 miles per hour. Yes, the bicycle in picture is the Lightning F40, whose name sounds more like a USAF fighter jet and shares an uncanny resemblance to Ferrari's F40. This bicycle, which looks like a motorcycle sidecar, is made by a Californian firm called Lightning Bikes. The Lightning F40 has a full fairing which consequently makes the rider look as though he/she is riding a detached motorcycle sidecar rather than a bicycle.

The frame of this cycle is made up of chromoly, the same material used in aircraft construction, which gives the cycle tremendous strength and stability. The bodywork is made up of very light fiberglass and for night riding, riders even have a headlight window. A live example of a person using this bicycle is Argus Malcolm Lamming who pedals all of 65 miles, every single day to his workplace, in his F40 at an average speed of 28 mph. The F40 retails for GBP 4000 which is indeed expensive for a bicycle. But then, when you consider the fitness benefits, eco-friendliness and long term savings, we think it is a decent price to pay.
