Posted By: Anupam Jolly | Nov 27 2006

Linutop is a diskless computer that is developed mainly for internet surfing. The system measures just 9.3 x 2.7 x 15 cm and weighs just 280 grams.

The system is ideal for use in cyber cafes but only those where the users are not permitted to download anything and also in living rooms.

Elsewhere Linutop can be used in Public information displays, Point of Sale terminals and as an Embedded PC.

The configurations of the device are:

-AMD Geode

- 512 Mb ROM

- 256 Mb RAM

- 4x USB 2.0 ports

- audio in & out

- 100baseT Ethernet

- VGA output

- Size: 9.3 x 2.7 x 15 cm

- Weight: 280 grams

You cannot install any special software on the device as it has no hard disk but the device comes with some inbuilt software as Abi Word Processor, PDF Reader, Firefox web browser, Gaim instant messenger and a Totem media player.

If you talk about me I don't see any buyers for the device as you cannot download anything into the system. If the makers can get a small memory space of around 10 GB under its hood then I think that it will surely lure some buyers.
