Taking the KES 2006 as a backdrop Sharp offered a thin-film LED solar panel battery “Lumiwall” with a single module that not only generates power but acts upon daylight transmission and self-illumination functions as well.
While the sunlight shines, the glass panels accumulate energy via solar arrays throughout the day. In the sunlight, they look like dark glass windows, but at night they transform into soft-glowing illumination devices.
Basically it is a transparent battery that gets charged by the sun. You may attach one to your roof for skylight in the day, and use it to light your home at night. Though, Lumiwall doesn’t really produce much electricity, still it generates an artistically-gratifying illumination mechanism.
