Lenovo’s veriface will use your face as password to log onto laptops

It is such an Utopian scenario to have everything like it is in 007 movies, like computers checking for the face credentials before someone logs on and all that jazz. However, Lenovo has taken it on them to prove that the so called Utopian scenario could actually become a reality with Veriface, which by the way just seems to be the beginning. Lenovo is already preparing to showcase its IdeaPad notebook, which features VeriFace, the face recognition software, which allows the user to log onto the computer by just sitting in front of it, using the face as their password. Combining the Windows log-in and file encryption to password-protect individual files, the software identifies the users by matching unique features of their faces to photographs that is taken by the built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam.

When you, the windows user start up the PC, a camera window pops up, then all you have to do is adjust the position so that your face appears in the window, consequently VeriFace logs you on automatically. So, if someone really tries to log on to commit some mischief, then he/she actually has no chance here, but that person will surely get a chance to leave a video message for the real user. The software currently only works on Windows XP Home and Professional, Windows Vista and Windows 7. And, it is being showcased at Lenovo’s forthcoming Innovation Tour in London on 22 June.
