gantry robot
When industries across the world are relying on automation for optimum efficiency, it does make a lot of sense to acquire the largest gantry robot system. Transwerk, a Wagon Build factory in Bloemfontein, South Africa, is the proud owner of the biggest gantry robot in the entire Southern Hemisphere. The company has, so far, spent 1.5M Euros in a total of 5 gantry robotic welding cells. Manufactured by Motoman, the robotic system measures a mind-boggling 7.5×8 in width and height. Little wonder that it took six 40-foot containers to transport it. The process of installing and commissioning the equipment took about a month. That is not all. The system incorporates 20 synchronised servo axes, wherein two of them control a pair of rotating positioners and tailstocks, each with a capacity of 20 tonnes. The positioners and tailstocks can turn a 7-tonne steel chassis of a rail wagon to 360 degrees. The metal behemoth also includes two suspended HP6 six-axis Motoman robots for the welding phase. The system also uses Motoman Tough-Gun torches that are lit by GMAW welding peripherals from SKS, Germany. Additional parts include a pulsed digital inverter, and components for seam finding and tracking, data logging and process control. Heavy fabrication is a common feature in companies across the world. However, it requires world-class robotic equipment to deliver flawless products and sustain the consistency in quality. According to the company, this robotic equipment fits the bill perfectly.
