Samsung has developed the world’s largest flexible TFT LCD panel. The seven-inch, 640×480 (VGA-standard) flexible screens are said to be thinner, lighter and durable than other LCD glass panels.
The technology to build the screens uses plastic which is flexible and does not break even after being flexed. The new display is double the size of Samsung’s five-inch flexible LCD display. A low-temperature processing technique was developed to manufacture the display’s amorphous thin-film transistors, filters and liquid crystals.
The LCD panel has been developed under a three-year program which was funded by Samsung Electronics and supported by Samsung’s Corporate Research Fund.
