Kinect hack puts you in the shoes of Superman!

As children, we've all tied a piece of cloth to our back, thrown up our hands and chanted "Up, up and away!". Well, it might be time to let that child out one more time. And this Kinect hack gives you the perfect reason to do it. Some students at the University of Amsterdam have created a first person simulation game that allows you to enact superman in the virtual world. So when you hold out one of your arms, the virtual superman character takes off. If you raise both arms, he moves three times faster. You can take a tour of the virtual metropolis this way and also enable Lazer vision and ice breath. And all the while, you are watching the world with Superman's eyes.

They have accomplished this by using a hacked Kinect sensor that maps body movements onto a virtual character. They have then fed in the gesture controls for flight. The player is required to wear a pair of virtual reality glasses through which the visual effects are achieved as if the camera were placed in Superman's eyes. The special functions of Lazer vision and ice breath are activated by tapping the right and left glasses.

Whatever your age is, this sure is a fun game to try out. While you are out there, do some good.
