Japan-based electronics giant JVC has come up with a unique dual-codec video camera LSI (Large-Scale Integration) chip. Known as world’s first dual codec camcorder LSI, the HD Gigabrid chip enables recording of HD videos both in H.264/MPEG-4 AVC format and MPEG-2 codec format simultaneously. Thus, the JVC’s dual codec LSI chip based video cameras are ideal for uploading video files to the internet, long time recording and video editing. The striking features of the JVC chip include Full HD (1920×1080p) recording and HD recording with 5MPps setting. It also writes MPEG-2 format videos at 27MBps speed.
The LSI chip is very useful for high quality long-time recording, and the MPEG-2 format that provides high bit rate stability for video editing. JVC’s dual-codec video cameras support SD card slot and USB to facilitate a number of applications.
The company is likely to roll on the dual codec chips along with Everio line of camcorders in the coming days.
