jetwing

Flying in the skies is no more an impossible task, you can do that via a helicopter or an glider, but to soar like a bird, or penetrate the winds like a superman or rocketeer, sounds much incredible. Yves Rossy, a Swiss pilot, inventor, and aviation enthusiast, is the first person to have flown a jet engine-powered wing strapped to his back. The fold able carbon graphite wing has 4 rocket engines, includes fuel, backup batteries, and oiled kerosene for lubricating the engine. The wing can not take off themselves, therefore, a Pilatus Porter plane took him as high as about 4000m above the earth. After a drop from the plane, Rossy ignited the engines on reaching 2500m. Rest, you can watch in the video below, more than 4 minutes of a horizontal flight at a speed of 100 knots. One thing, which makes it a bit distinguished, is that, it was a full flown DIY flight. I bet, nothing sounds cooler than having wings of your own. Yves has served as a fighter pilot in the Swiss Air Force flying Dassault Mirage IIIs, Northrop F-5 Tiger IIs and Hawker Hunters. He flew Boeing 747s for Swissair and now works as an Airbus pilot for Swiss. In his own opinion, Rossy believes that his invention may find military uses in the future.
