It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s actually a guy in a jet suit...huh?
Well, Swiss daredevil Yves Rossy, a.k.a. FusionMan is now going to attempt to cross the English Channel on the 24th of September by means of a jet pack. After a successful 36km flight over Switzerland, Rossy is confident that he could make the run over the Channel. The Swissman was able to attain speeds of about 180km/h and flew for about 12 minutes before landing in the airfield in Villeneuve. After the flight, the Jetman said,
Everything went well, it was awesome, it’s my longest flight with this wing. If there are no technical problems, it’s OK for the English Channel. I can’t wait for this next challenge!
Rossy was earlier hindered by a mass of electronic technical failures but this did not stop him from pursuing his dream. He fixed and fine-tuned and was finally able to get the jet pack working successfully. The aircraft itself is pretty simple since it’s just a wing with no movable parts. Rossy would just shift his weight if he wanted to steer left or right.
We all wish him well during his next epic journey and hope he is able to achieve his dream. Rossy was a former military pilot.
