Japanese researchers make SSDs communicate wirelessly

Japan’s Keio University and its research associates devised new mini-SSD by mounding NAND flash memory chips above each other. They succeeded in connecting them with fewer wires, and thus reduced the number of wires from 1,500 to just 200. This reduction allows them a spare gap to fill with extra memory. Also, these chips make use of inductive coupling in communicating. It infers that you don’t need a mishmash of wires, and hence a wireless data link is sufficient to make the communication a viable one. So, if you believe in the saying, "small is beautiful," these researchers seem to be the greatest admirers of the same!
