Japanese create motorized knee to let you run with less muscle power

Researchers at Japan’s famous Tuskuba University, better known for the HAL-5 Robot Suit, have developed a motorized knee, which is a kit weighing almost 5kgs. Designed to support flexing of the knee when attached, the kit enhances human diligence and allows the wearer to run with 30% less muscle power than he would need to run normally.

Not sure how an individual will manage to run with less muscle power with that weight on the knee, but if I bet on the Japanese creators, then maybe by wearing this knee brace I’ll be able to give Usian Bolt a run for his money (but end up shame my own self). Controlled by a motor attached to a control unit carried by the prospective wearer in the backpack, the knee is primarily targeted to make people efficient at running.

In case you don’t back your own legs for a run and are therefore looking up to the motorized knee for some assistance, the wait may just be long then. The researchers expect the motorized knee kit would be commercialized within three years from now.
