With its eminent strength in the global IT market, Indian technologists have a recent history of unveiling prime electronic products at a fraction of the cost of its contemporary Western cousins. Conceptions such as the Rs. 5000 laptop ($113) contrived by two Indian engineering students comes to mind. But this time the company in limelight is India's Wipro, one of the world's largest information technology (IT) services company, and it has ambitiously planned to launch a low cost version of the iPad.

Currently the average cost of an iPad in India amounts to Rs. 29,500 (going by the $660 price tag), which remains beyond the scope of many urban sections of the population, let alone the rural ones. But in a bid to rectify the situation and to technologically uplift a significant section of the Indian public, Wipro has announced that it would develop an iPad-esque contraption (with all the added paraphernalia) at just $32.
The company has also made it clear that the new product can make its foray into the commercial scheme of things by early 2012. The plan certainly comes at a propitious period for the electronic market in India, as sales for iPad, Blackberry’s Playbook аnԁ Samsung’s Galaxy Tab is about cross the million mark. And beyond the technical challenges if Wipro manages to pull this one off, it would not only mark India's emerging technological prowess, but would also boost the consumer capability in certain socio-economical circles.Via: FoxNews
